Two first-ever events will return to Sierra Vista over Memorial Day weekend, inviting visitors and residents to find adventure in the sky islands and sample some of Arizona’s best wines, beers, and spirits.
Married under the new name “Sips & Skies,” the City of Sierra Vista’s Wine, Beer, & Spirits Festival and Sky Islands Summit Challenge will both take place on Saturday, May 26. They are followed up on Sunday, May 27, by a wine-tasting tour, which is already sold out, and an outdoor breakfast buffet at the Landmark Café.
The events enjoyed strong turnout during their first year in 2017 and are poised to grow in 2018. There are already more than 100 people signed up to tackle one, two, or three peaks in the Huachuca Mountains in the Sky Islands Summit Challenge, compared to 54 in the event’s first year. The Wine, Beer, & Spirits Festival has also seen about twice as many advance ticket sales to date and is expected to surpass last year’s attendance of nearly 3,000 people
“These events showcase Sierra Vista’s extraordinary outdoor recreation and unique sky island environment, while also positioning our community as a central hub in the middle of Arizona’s premiere wine growing regions,” says Judy Hector, marketing and public affairs manager for the City. “It’s the perfect opportunity for visitors to spend a long holiday weekend in Sierra Vista as they explore attractions in Sierra Vista and throughout Cochise County.”
Detailed information about all the Sips & Skies events is available at www.VisitSierraVista.com, on the “Sierra Vista Sips & Skies” Facebook page, and at www.eventbrite.com by searching for “Sips & Skies.” Sips & Skies is sponsored by Herald/Review Media and the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative.
