GOLF: UA's miracle run reaches final climax

STILLWATER, OK -

Arizona advanced to face Alabama in the national championship match on Tuesday after defeating Stanford 4-1 in the semifinal match of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club on Tuesday. 

UA defeated UCLA 3-2 earlier in the day to reach the semifinal match against Stanford.

The Wildcats led from the beginning of the semifinal match against Stanford and never looked back. 

Gigi Stoll won her match 5&3 against Ziyi Wang and after getting the lead on the 6th hole she cruised to victory. 

Sandra Nordaas never trailed in her match and won in dominating fashion 6&4 against Albane Valenzuela. 

Haley Moore won the clinching point for the Wildcats 3&2 defeating Mika Liu while never trailing in the match. 

Bianca Pagdanganan was 1 Up on Andrea Lee when the clinching point was decided for UA.

Yu-Sang Hou lost her match 1&1 to Shannon Aubert. 

Arizona will be making its first appearance in the national championship match since the format was changed in 2015. 

The Wildcats will look to claim its third national championship in program history and first since 2000 with the first coming in 1996. 

Alabama won their lone national championship in program history in 2012. 

Since the format to determine a national champion changed to match play in 2015, Pac-12 teams have won every year with Stanford (2015), Washington (2016), and Arizona State (2017).

On Tuesday morning the Cats beat UCLA 3-2 in the quarterfinal match. The match came down to the last pairing of Pagdanganan and Patty Tavatanakit. With the match all square coming into the 18th hole, Pagdanganan birdied and Tavatanakit took a par to clinch the victory for UA.

Arizona and Alabama will tee off on Wednesday beginning at 12:25 p.m. Tucson time. Coverage on the Golf Channel will start at 3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MST.

1:05 p.m. - Haley Moore vs. Lakareber Abe
