WESTWOOD, CA - Arizona dropped Game 1 of the Los Angeles Super Regional on Thursday night, 7-1, to third-seeded UCLA.
The Bruins hit four home runs while pitchers Rachel Garcia and Holly Azevedo limited Arizona to three hits in the contest.
Arizona's Taylor McQuillin (28-11), who entered the game having pitched five straight shutouts and had just tossed 19.2 scoreless innings in the Tucson Regional, allowed seven runs on 10 hits over five innings.
Garcia (26-3), who took a perfect game into the fourth, struck out eight in five shutout innings while allowing one hit. She also hit a two-run home run for the Bruins (55-5).
The Wildcats (43-15) will now find themselves in need of winning two consecutive games, Friday and Saturday, to extend their season and earn a berth into their 23rd Women's College World Series.
Game 2 of the series will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
