TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Memorial Day celebrations are taking place across Southern Arizona, honoring those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

These events are drawing in many veterans and people from the community, even the youngest of locals.

Marana Boy Scout Troop 219 helped prepare for the patriotic holiday by putting flags out across the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marana. While putting the flags out, the boys learned what Memorial Day represents and why it's important to many of the people they're close to.

"I think it's about like spending time with your family and I think it's about, like also about, spending time with people who fought in the war that are still alive like my papa and my grandpa," said Boy Scout Cameron Whitney.

This is the third annual Memorial Day Ceremony put on by the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5990 at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The ceremony will include a flyover by the Arizona Scorpions, wreath laying, a rifle salute, and guest speakers.

Some Marana locals say they plan to attend the ceremony, including a few of the Boy Scouts from Troop 219.

Cameron Whitney and his fellow Boy Scout Caleb Rauch shared what they'll be keeping in mind about the fallen service men and woman on today's national holiday.

"Freedom for us," said Caleb . Cameron follows that up by saying, "They also gave their lives to protect us."

The ceremony at Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marana starts at 8 A.M. and is set to run until 10 A.M.
