Reaction of neighbor to discovery of a disturbing, abandoned camp in Tucson

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson News Now went back to the site of the abandoned camp near Interstate 19 and Valencia.

We were told a second camp, similar to the first one, was found in the same area.

We never found that second camp, instead we saw something unusual beneath a large tree.

The tree is in a wash, more than a mile north of the first camp. Upon investigating we found a local woman that goes by Perdida Joy. She has been living under the tree for five years.

According to Perdida, she came there after being kicked out of an apartment and then was invited to live there by a friend. Joy showed us around her home, from the area she calls the bedroom to the kitchen to the garage where Joy and her friend keep their bikes.

It was much different looking place then what we found earlier in the week. So we decided to show Joy the abandoned camp.

She said it looked creepy and disturbing to her. Joy said there’s no need for a tunnel.

We heard from the Tucson Police Department about the abandoned camp. They stated they had investigators look at the camp, take pictures and write a report. They also had an officer out at the camp Friday.

For right now, TPD stated their conclusion is that the area is just a homeless camp.
