TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Three separate fires were to blame for the blaze that shut down Silverbell Road on the west side of Tucson Thursday, June 7.
More than 70 first responders kept the flames in the Santa Cruz River from spreading to homes.
The Northwest Fire District said protecting homes is a priority, as is the safety of the firefighters.
Firefighters did not fully engage the blaze, opting to let it burn itself out as no structures were threatened.
Letting the fire burn cleared out the river bed, which will reduce the chance of a blaze in the future.
NWFD Captain Brian Keeley said they won't risk lives to stop flames burning in river bed.
