Those in and around Ft. Huachuca may notice smoke in the air this week, but not to worry it's supposed to be there, as the fort burns slash piles.
According to a news release from the Ft. Huachuca Public Affairs Office, the piles will be burned in Middle and Upper Garden Canyons.
What these burns mean is each individual pile is burned and then the ashes are pushed and spread out to cool off overnight.
Recent rains and a green up of the area are what the fort's forester is taking advantage of. The burns are subject to change due to resource availability and weather.
Burns are expected to start around 7:30 a.m. each day and continue until 11 a.m. every day from Tuesday, Aug. 21 to Thursday, Aug. 23.
