TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Here are some notes from Week 1 of the high school football season:

  • Flowing Wells win over Canyon del Oro snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Dorados dating back to 2003 when the Caballeros won 36-14
    • The Dorados seven straight victories over Flowing Wells had come by an average of four touchdowns
  • Ironwood Ridge raised their all-time record over Mountain View to 10-2 with 42-14 victory over the Lions
    • Drew Cook shook his way to 164 all-purpose yards (101 rushing and 63 receiving) for the Nighthawks with two touchdowns (1 rushing and 1 receiving)
    • Nate Grijalva put up the first 100-yard rushing game of his career (25 carries 122 yards) for Ironwood Ridge 
  • Douglas won their opener in dominating fashion over Tanque Verde after finishing 0-10 in 2017
    • Manny Mejia ran for 240 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs 55-6 victory
    • Norberto Pacheco recorded three sacks for Douglas
  • Gary Love posted a 36-carry 131-yard rushing game for Tucson in the Badgers 63-6 drubbing of Maryvale
  • Marana has added talented transfer Xoeius Ratliffe to their talent pool. The senior ran for 91 yards on ten carries and a touchdown in his debut. He’s a transfer from Elysian Fields, Texas.
  • 154 yards rushing in the season opener for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy’s Ryan Garcia
  • Mandrell Garrick caught four passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns for Buena in the Colts 28-17 loss to Catalina Foothills
    • Dominick Bynum had an 86-yard touchdown reception for the Falcons and finished with 101 yards receiving on the game
