TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - This year, Banner – University Medical Centers in both Tucson and Phoenix were recognized among the best hospitals in the U.S. for several specialties, by U.S. News & World Report.
Tucson's Banner - University Medical Center ranked nationally in three specialties - Nephrology (#50), Pulmonology (#49) and Gynecology (#36). Banner UMC also had high performing specialties in Cancer, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery and Geriatrics.
Phoenix Banner University Medical Center was also recognized in five specialties - Neurology & Neurosurgery (#50), Cardiology & Heart Surgery (#43), Nephrology (#32), Pulmonology (#31) and Geriatrics (#19). Its high-performing specialties include: Cancer, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Orthopedics and Urology.
Both hospitals were additionally recognized by region, with Banner – University Medical Center Tucson ranked #3 in Arizona and #1 in Tucson, while Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix ranked #2 in Arizona and #2 in Phoenix Metro.
These rankings were complied by U.S. News & World Report, which evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 158 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro areas, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple care areas.
Now in its 29th year, the Best Hospitals rankings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions, or for common elective procedures.
