TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Sabino High School grad Matt Bushman caught a 24-yard touchdown pass for BYU as the Cougars held back a fierce late rally to beat Arizona 28-23 in the 2018 college football season-opener at Arizona Stadium.
The loss spoiled the debut of Kevin Sumlin as football coach at UA. It's was Arizona's first season-opening loss at Arizona Stadium since 2000 when the Dick Tomey's final team fell to Ohio State 27-17.
Cats quarterback Khalil Tate struggled overall on the evening. He finished with just 197 passing yards and one touchdown.
Squally Canada carried the ball 24 times for 98 yards and three touchdowns for BYU.
Arizona (0-1) will travel to face Houston next Saturday.
