Crash on I-10 at Picacho Peak Road

PICACHO PEAK, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A multi-vehicle crash that closed Interstate 10 eastbound at Picacho Peak Road on Thursday, Dec. 6 was cleared Friday morning and the highway has reopened, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

According to a DPS news release, a 2012 Nissan sedan, driven by a 22-year-old female was heading westbound on I-10 when, for an unknown reason it went off the road to the left, crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes, hitting a 2018 Toyota van driven by an unidentified female. A third vehicle, a 2017 Ford pickup, driven by a 28-year-old female then struck the passenger side of the white Nissan.

Sadly the driver of the white Nissan died at the scene, while the driver of the van was transported to the hospital and is in critical condition; the driver of the truck was also transported but with non-life threatening injuries.

I-10 eastbound was down to one lane during the investigation, according to DPS and reopened completly on Friday, Dec. 7 around 3 a.m.

No further information was immediately available.

Westbound lanes were unaffected.
